Day 26/365

Day 26 (1 of 1)

What do you do when you get the photography itch late in the evening? You haul your flatmate out of his room, get him to throw on a shirt and tie over his boardies, and get him out onto the street and knock off a five minute two light portrait.

Thanks for being such a sport Dylan.

Day 25 (1 of 1)

This is the sunset from Jo’s window.

Day 23/365: Self Portrait

Q Candidates (6 of 15)

This is a new edit of an old self-portrait. I’ve been editing furiously, to get my Q submission together in time for February’s deadline. I’ve also done a little shooting – but none of it is for publication (yet) unfortunately. Tired… See you tomorrow…

Day 22/365

Day 22 (1 of 1)

Okay this one’s a bit of a cheat, I actually took this picture a few days back, but I edited it today, so that much count for something! I’m trying to catch up on edits and get my Q submission ready in time for this February’s submission deadline – so I’ve been tight on time.

Day 21/365

Day 21 (1 of 1)

This photographer’s vest belonged to my dad. He’d use it on his wildlife photography trips. It went into storage when we moved to New Zealand – his interest had always been in wildlife far more than in photography itself, and there were no big game in New Zealand, so the cameras went into storage too.

He did get me into photography though, and even gave me the first lenses I used, and is basically the reason I do what I do now.

Mum was digging around among his things and found this, and gave it to me. I’ll be wearing it for the first time when I go shooting today.

Thanks Dad.

Day 20/365

Day 20 (1 of 1)

Jo and I went out to Muriwai, to see the Gannet Colony yesterday. Oddly, for all the times I’ve been out there, never actually hung a left at the turnoff and gone up to the Gannet Colony. Pretty cool up there, when you get past the smell.

Must have made about 400 exposures up there, but I think I’ve been a people photographer for too long – this one’s my favourite.

Brand new week folks. Hope you find the strength to manfully make it to the other end. See you again tomorrow!

P.S. Congratulations President Obama!

Day 19/365

Days 15 through 19 (5 of 5)

Okay, today’s image has no photographic merit whatsoever – it’s just a big gloat – I got a new monitor! The wonderful Dell U2410M! IPS Panel, colour calibrated out of the box, I could cry! Check out this beauty!

Day 18/365

Days 15 through 19 (4 of 5)

I had another one of those weird days yesterday when you simply don’t feel motivated to do anything. But I noticed the packaging from the last Yongnuo trigger set I picked up lying on my desk. Don’t get me wrong, I’m a big fan of Yongnuo – they bring off-camera flash to the common man – but you have to wonder who made up their slogan… always cracks me up!

Day 17/365

Days 15 through 19 (3 of 5)

Joey and I went out to Kumeu to visit Isaac and Amber from Perspectives Photo + Cinema in their new studio, and we stopped to get petrol on the way back and snapped this off. I really like this shot! And this is the first image edited with my BRAND NEW MONITOR! Details coming a couple of posts down… 🙂
